Christina & Joey know how to throw a party! Their big day was action packed with lots of friends, sunshine and dancing.
The day began with the girls getting ready in the reception hall at Sky Retreat and the guys hanging out in one of the cabins on the gorgeous property. Just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway (I actually took the Blue Ridge Parkway to get there), Sky Retreat offers a stunning east-facing view along with a spacious and comfy indoor venue space.
Christina and Joey really customized their wedding to be a reflection of their life together. With a natural feel, simple hydrangea and white florals, wooden centerpieces, homemade blackberry jam favors, craft brews and NC BBQ, their big day was very High Country. They also made a point to make their two dogs part of the festivities.
Their ceremony took place on the venue’s grassy knoll with the mountains sprawling as far as the eye can see. During their ceremony, I witnessed a tradition that I’d never seen before — a wine unity ceremony. Christina & Joey both poured from separate decanters of wine into one cup, leaving some for themselves (symbolizing that they retain their own individuality) and then sharing sips from their united cup. A wine tradition is a tradition that I can get on board with! Christina’s brother officiated and did a phenomenal job. Following the ceremony, we snuck away for photos of these two with the stunning backdrop.
Have I mentioned that I love dancing? I mean seriously though. I love dancing my way into a crowd to get the perfect dancing shot, and Christina & Joey’s guests did not disappoint! EVERYONE danced! From parents to grandparents to aunties and uncles and kiddos–everyone cut a rug. The reception included a bouquet toss, and a sparkler exit rounded out the evening. Good times!
