Nancee & Justin got married back in August at Homewood Estate in Asheville, NC. The day was hot, humid and action packed! Thus, when Nancee contacted me for a bride & groom bridal shoot off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, I was very excited about the opportunity to photograph them again.
These two live in Miami, FL, but love coming up to Asheville and Western North Carolina to visit. Nancee got her dress at a boutique in Durham, and it’s the work of talented designer Anne Barge. It might be the most incredible dress I’ve had the opportunity to photograph, and I feel like Nancee and this dress were meant to find one another.
In the weeks leading up to our shoot, Western NC had been battling wildfires, the smoke from which obscured the view and covered the mountains south of Asheville. Soooo in the hopes of avoiding the smoke, we headed north on the Blue Ridge Parkway towards Craggy Gardens and Mount Mitchell.
While the day was clear with no smoke in sight, we woke up to a forecast of 25 mph winds and freezing temps. Did you think that would stop us? Puh-lease! Nancee wasn’t afraid of the cold or the wind, which actually helped make for fantastic shots with her dress and veil.
We stopped along the way to Craggy at the Tanbark Tunnel Trail and at a couple of overlooks. As we ascended though it got colder and eventually we encountered SNOW when we reached the Craggy Gardens visitors center. We hopped out for our photos and then jumped back into our warm vehicles. The red mountain ash berries offered a beautiful contrast in our photos though.
Although we didn’t hike up Craggy Pinnacle, we DID time our descent back to Asheville perfectly with the sunset, which resulted in some AMAZING photos.
What an adventure with two beautiful people and their lil pup Roscoe! I can’t wait to photograph Nancee & Justin again. Had tons of fun with these two, and couldn’t be more thankful for their patience and willingness to get the shot!
