Hannah & Joseph’s wedding was all about the love between people. Their nuptials were punctuated with not only adoration for each other, but also a sense of community with all the people that surround their daily lives. There were smiles, dancing amongst strangers and tons of laughter from the getting ready with mimosas to throwing down on the dance floor to ’70’s tunes from Hall & Oates, Chicago, and Blood, Sweat & Tears. Hannah & Joseph’s wedding was a true delight to photograph–especially as a documentarian wedding photographer.
With very few posed shots, H&J gave me full reign to document the unfolding of their wedding day as an observer. Being able to approach the day in this way, I took the opportunity to play with lighting, angles, and my backgrounds as I would for fine art or street photography. The result was stunning. While in the moment, I didn’t realize just how fantastic the candids were from this wedding. There were so many beautiful people there that night, and I adored capturing love between old friends as well as new acquaintances. The range of guests from old to young(there was a newborn there!) to near and far made me also think about why I love weddings so much–they offering a coming together for family who haven’t seen each other in forever and a chance for everyone to forget their worries and just dance.
I so enjoyed shooting at the Altamont Theater and working with other very talented wedding professionals. I hope I get to shoot there again as it reminded me a lot of home(New Orleans). A huge thank you to Hannah & Joseph for having me as a part of their big day, which was a classy, loving and FUN affair.
